Estrella Springs is the adaptive reuse and rehabilitation of a Budget Inn Motel to create Permanent Supportive Housing studios for 89 formerly homeless veterans and those living with a mental health diagnosis. Located in the Santa Ana Mixed Use Corridor District, a rapidly growing residential neighborhood, Estrella Springs will be a key asset to a newly envisioned gateway to Santa Ana – with marquee uses, buildings, and street design that strengthen the community’s sense of identity and the city’s image as a center for arts and culture.
Estrella Springs consists of an extensive renovation and modernization of two existing three-story residential buildings (Type V) and the construction of a new two-story community center building. The exterior of the building features clean, modern details and on the north façade an artist-designed mural evokes local neighborhood culture. Sustainable enhancements to the property and landscaping will advance the City of Santa Ana’s Green Initiative, lowering energy consumption and increasing water conservation. Seventy-one stalls of on-grade parking will be available for onsite residents, service providers, and guests.
Each unit underwent a full-scale structural and interior renovation, featuring new kitchens with two-burner electric stovetops, refrigerators, and microwaves, upgraded heating and air systems, updated bathroom cabinetry, new flooring, and a repainting. The studios are fully furnished and now include additional accessibility-friendly amenities to better accommodate residents' needs.
The new 4,347-square-foot community center features dedicated service and amenity spaces for residents and onsite staff. Jamboree oversees the delivery of supportive services provided by the Heroes Landing Community Collaborative, another Jamboree property exclusively for veterans in Santa Ana, located a mile from North Harbor Village. These services help to ensure the health and stability necessary for these formerly homeless residents to live independently and thrive.
