Residents were temporarily relocated during the rehabilitation.
As part of the Buena Clinton neighborhood, Sunswept is located near three local schools and is a short walk to nearby shopping and dining. Jamboree has worked in conjunction with the City of Garden Grove, the county and other partners to revitalize this entire neighborhood and bring affordable housing to an area with real estate prices that are out of reach for many workforce families.
The rehabilitation of Sunswept was another step in an overall redevelopment plan that reflects the City of Garden Grove’s ongoing commitment to improve the Buena Clinton neighborhood. The area suffered from high poverty and crime rates, but a major revitalization effort begun in the late 1980s has turned around this neighborhood. Through the combined efforts of local government officials and residents, crime rates have dropped and quality of life for residents has improved.
City leaders drafted a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization strategy, and developed a public/private partnership to acquire and rehabilitate the buildings. The reality of that commitment now spans 20 years and Jamboree has been an integral part of that since 1996. The Sunswept renovation was another important part of these improvement efforts.
